Home Learning and Homework
Homework
We have tried to carefully balance the opportunity for children to have regular homework in which they can engage with their families but at the same time for it to be not onerous.
All children in Years 1-6.
Reading: To read for 15 minutes at least 3 times per week. You should have received a letter about reading from your child’s class teacher. Reading diaries will be checked on a Friday.
Spellings: Children will receive a set of spellings and/or phonics sounds. These will not be tested in the traditional fashion but instead we will expect the children to use their spellings within their written work.
Times tables: Children have a TT Rock Stars account and the expectation is for them to do at least 15 minutes per week on this. Their username and password is in their reading logs. This will be monitored to ensure that children are all accessing their set work.
Maths: Every child will be set 3 activities per week on Mathletics (approximately 30 minutes). Children will receive their username and password and will have a lesson on this over the next few weeks. Their Mathletics homework will be set from Monday 21st September. New activities will be set on a Monday and access will be checked.
Topic: Each term, children in Years 1-6 will be focusing on a different topic. If you would like your child to do any Topic homework then attached is a Topic Grid. This homework is additional for fun and enjoyment with the family. If your child has completed any of this then please send pictures on Dojo.
If you would like your child to do any additional homework then I would recommend Rising Stars books which are year group specific. These can be ordered online.
Home Learning
Sywell CE Primary School will provide work for children in COVID related absences or due to long term absence for example in the event of long term illness. We will not provide work when children are off sick for general illness or if children go on holiday.
COVID absence
Please inform the office if your child is absent due to COVID. This might be that a member of the household has a positive result and the whole household is in isolation for 10 days or it might be that your child has COVID symptoms and you are awaiting results of a recent test. Please also email the headteacher so that school have a direct link and can send work as appropriate.
In the event of the above then your child's class teacher or the headteacher will contact you to give you an indication of the work being done at the beginning of isolation.
It is not possible to offer live lessons but it will be expected that you will follow the English and Maths lessons indicated on the Oak National Academy Website and White Rose Website. Where possible, teachers will also supplement learning with Topic Related work.
Should a bubble close, or if we are put into lockdown, all classes will have work set which may be accessed via Google Classroom.
In all cases of isolation or bubble closure, all children should access:
White Rose Hub daily Maths lesson on line (link below).
Oak National Academy for all other subjects where directed by the class teacher (link below).
We supply and mark work in suspected Covid-19 cases, for any other case of illness, holiday or absence from school, including cases where children are not in school because of parental refusal to send back, we do not supply or mark work.
Please continue to abide by Covid-19 regulations to help prevent a bubble or a school closure.
Many thanks for your understanding.
